Travels

Traveling is my passion and this page is dedicated to sharing some of my experiences with the World Wide Web. I hopes to inspire more people to travel because I believe it is the only way for people to overcome their fears and biases of people and false perceptions of other countries. There really is so much more beyond the US. Even if you can't travel due to financial reasons, I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and engage with people that are different than you. Try different foods, try making friends from diverse backgrounds, and remember that we are all fundamentally the same.

UK 2024

One of my best friends got married in the UK (he is British) and I was part of his wedding. Originally I wanted to go with my wife and then 5 month old, but the time change would have been really hard for the baby. I ended up going by myself, stopping in London for a couple days, going to the weekend wedding, and then spending a lovely week with two of my close friends that got married. I had a grand time with my mates :)

Road Trip From FL to CA 2022

I got a tenure track professor position at California State University Dominguez Hills, so we took a long road trip from Florida to get there. My favorite stop on the most southern route from FL to CA was definitely New Orleans followed by El Paso. New Orleans was just such a fun city full of culture and El Paso felt so familiar to me as I lived in Mexico for several years prior.

Puerto Rico 2022

We decided to do a late honeymoon in Puerto Rico, my birthplace, after we got several generous gifts for our wedding. We started in San Juan where we explored Viejo San Juan in the day and night. Then we went to Arecibo to check out drawings from my Taino Indiginoues People, and stayed in Camuy with the wonderful sound of the coqui. Then we wrapped our trip up with a trip to the island of Vieques followed by El Yunque National Rain Forest.

San Francisco, CA 2022

When I met my wife I asked her what cities she'd want to visit first in the US, and she told me San Francisco and New York City. I decided to take her there after a conference I had in Vancouver, Canada. She met one of my best friends Peter and we had a blast exploring the city and nature around to the fullest.

More Mexico & Central America 2019

My wife and I explored more of Mexico and Central America. We visited Cancun, Chiapas in MX along with Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. In Guatemala, we explored Antigua, Lake Atitlan and Guatemala City, and fell in love with the natural volcanic landscapes. Then we stopped at San Salvador, one of the most dangerous places in the world. Leon, the home of Ruben Dario and Managua, the capital of Nicaragua followed. Our final stop was Costa Rica, a green tropical paradise.

Mexico City 2019

A couple of my friends and I wanted to explore Mexico City for a week. We explored the food culture, nightlife Museums, Xochimilco and Teotihuacan. This trip is so special to me because here is where I met my wife. After this trip, I lived in Mexico on and off for the following two years.

South America 2018

Having best friends from South America, this trip was a long time coming. I explored three countries: Bolivia, Peru, and Colombia. I started in La Paz, Bolivia, one of the highest cities in the World and did not get motion sickness thanks to lots of coca leaf tea. Then I went to Cusco by bus (in the Andes!) to explore some of the Incan ruins. Then I went to Lima, where I explored more of the food culture of Peru. Finally I went to Medellin, Colombia which is one of my favorite cities in the world followed by Bogota, the capital of Colombia.

Second Trip to Europe 2018

In the same Summer 2018, I went to Europe and I met one of my best mates from Germany in Paris. Paris was simply phenomenal. From Paris I went to Bordeaux to try the world famous wine there. Then I went to the capital of Catalan which is Barcelona, where beaches and parties were plentiful. Madrid followed, making it just in time for the greatest Gay Pride celebration I have ever been a part of. Then I spent a couple nights in Lisbon.

First Trip to East Asia 2018

This was my first trip to Asia in the Summer 2018 and it was incredible. After a week of exploring Hong Kong with friends, we parted, and I went to Beijing. While in Beijing, I did the typical, enjoyed great museums, local attractions, and made friends. Then I went to Seoul, Korea where the dance and food impressed me. I finished my trip in Tokyo, where I felt I had gone 10 years into the future. Simply put, visiting Asia was incredible and I really want to go back soon!

West Coast 2017

On this trip I went to the Vancouver, Canada and Los Angeles in November 2017. In Vancouver, one of my local friends showed me around and gave me a tour on bicycle. While there he enjoyed the natural beauty and vibrant diverse community. In Los Angeles, he explored Hollywood, Santa Monica, Griffiths Park, as well as engaging with other dancers (LA is the world capital of Dance!) in LA's thriving nightlife.

First Trip to Europe 2017

I traveled to the United Kingdom, The Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland in May 2020. I was very lucky to have one of my English mates guide me through London and southern England, and one of my German friends show me around Amsterdam, Berlin and Munich. Every city had incredible sights to see as well as great local beer. Then I went to Switzerland, where I made new friends and ate lots of sandwiches because Switzerland is expensive!
